there’s something wrong with me

Published by buntis at 2:00 pm under health and fitness, life, pregnancy Edit This

I finally got that HSG procedure done and Oily Shit that effin hurt! It only hurt during the procedure - which probably took about 3 mins? Anyway, it was painful procedure but my endocrinologist said that pain of labor is about 10x that! Yikes! Anyway, we got the results, we had the doctor meeting and all that. Everything was normal except for one - my progesterone level was really low. Let’s say they wanted to see equal or greater than 10, I only had 4.5. I do not know the standard of measure that they used but that’s what the results said. And that was a little disappointing. The next thing to do for us is to take Clomid, a fertility drug that induces ovulation. As I understood it, the doctor said that clomid lets your brain know that youre ready for reproduction and so it tells your brain to produce eggs and prepare your body for pregnancy. Did I get it right? If i got it right, then I am a little confused about the whole thing. On all the tests performed, including the vaginal ultrasound, it seemed to me that I had no problem ovulating, and the ultrasound even showed then that I had two eggs ready to pop. Why then would I want meds to produce more eggs when all I need is something that will make my body be ready for the egg, assuming we got them fertilized, to nest to. And if I the level of progesterone is the problem, can’t I just get progesterone supplements (if that exists) instead of something that will make more eggs? We just started using an ovulation kit this month to see if i ovulate and it showed that I did…  I don’t know, this whole process is starting to confuse me and frustrate me so I think this will be the last ‘pregnancy update’ for now.

To be honest with you, I have had all of that stuff done and more. When I switched doctors, the new one told me I was going to have to have all of the tests done again. I asked her if she had my test results from the previous doctor, and she said she did. I couldn’t figure out why I was going to have to do this all again when all of my tests were prefect so far, until I asked doctor #2 how much this was all going to cost considering it’s all out-of-pocket expenses. She told me, “Oh, it will be about $40,000,” like that was nothing. I replied with, “Really? $40,000? And you’re not even going to get me pregnant? You’re just testing me?” She says, “That’s right. It’s a requirement before we can give you anything.” So by then I was pissed. I said, “Who the f*** makes these rules and requirements?” Her reply was, “Our office does.” This is not something that a healthcare board says. They do it to make money. It’s a money game! And we wonder why we can’t afford healthcare. So, just a though, but see about doing something different. If the Clomid works for you…GREAT! No one will give it to me. I have spent nearly $30,000 of my own money trying for 5 years to get pregnant. My biggest concern is that my husband is 40 (I’m 27) and that he won’t be around to see his child graduate or get married because he’s working with heavy equipment every day. They don’t want to hear that the process needs to be sped up a little. Just think about it before you consent to any more tests. One woman to another–I hate to see what’s happened to me happen to you. Questions everything–motives, practices, cost, etc. I hope things go well for you and I hope your efforts receive great rewards. Just think about what I’ve gone through before you take another step if the Clomid doesn’t work. Best wishes!

    Hey Potts,
thanks for the note! :) yeah, I think we’ll try to wait until next year to figure out what our next move will be. It’s true about the ridiculous expenses. We haven’t spent as much as you had because our health insurance covers half of it, but I know how expensive it could get. I have spent about $800 and that is just for the initial tests with 50% off! The last time we went for the consultation to review the test results, I thought was part of the first consultation. After 15 minutes of talking to the doctor and we’re on our way out. The receptionist called us and asked us for our payment! We were not expecting that. There’s another $90 down. Are you doing this through your health care provider or using private doctors? Good luck!
